Today in history: EDEN WORKSHOP SLATES MAKCEY PLAY AS OPENER

The EDEN Theatrical Workshop will open its 1965-66 season Nov. 12, with a play by William Mackey, “Behold, Cometh the Vanderkellans.”

Featured in the EDEN cast of “Vanderkellans” will be Orville Springs and Myrtle Marie Scales.

Springs, a native of Denver, is the resident director of EDEN and starred in their production of “Oh, Mama, No Papa.” He has also worked with the University of Colorado Little Theatre and directed the EDEN Summer Workshop this year.

“Behold! Cometh the Vanderkellans” will be directed in Denver by Donald Todd. Persons under 18 will not be admitted to the play.

In her book, All Things Are Connected, Lucy M. Walker said, “Todd was the first black to be graduated from Denver University’s Theatre Department and as early as the 60’s had established an impressive artistic reputation. Behold, Cometh the Vanderkellans received widespread…
