BAYFIELD —- Together with Wisconsin Public Television, the Bayfield Chamber and Visitor Bureau will be hosting a premier screening of “Around the Corner with John McGivern: Bayfield Edition” at the Lakeside Pavilion on March 12. The event is free and open to the public.

In August, TV host John McGivern and crew spent several days in Bayfield and on Madeline Island taking the time to get to know and interview some of the characters that make up the two communities. The result will be a half-hour episode which will air on Public Television channels in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Illinois.

“We will have the great privilege of seeing our local colorful characters featured on the screen,” said Mayor Larry MacDonald, “Around the Corner with John McGivern” showcases our delightful community to the world.”

The show features interviews with nearly 20 people, including Mayor MacDonald, philanthropist and artist Mary Rice, Tom Galazen of North Wind Organic Farm, author Dennis McCann and Robert and Jackie Hansen of the Winfield Inn. They also visited Big Top Chautauqua, Madeline Islands School of the Arts, Ethels at 250 and the Headquarters at the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore.

“We are very excited to share this premier event with the community,” said Kelley Linehan, Marketing and Events Manager for the Bayfield Chamber and Visitor Bureau. “Over the course of the summer, the Chamber worked very closely with the production team to try to pull together a sampling of the people who live, work and play in Bayfield. Of course, we wish they could have included everyone, but we think they were able to get a good sample. It should be fun to watch,” she added.

The doors will open at 6 p.m. At 6:30 p.m., Mayor Larry McDonald and host John McGivern will host a Q&A session about the making of the show and the Bayfield area. McGivern will be attending the premier event via Skype. The exclusive screening will follow at 7 p.m.

Light refreshments will be served and there will be a cash bar. DVDs of the episode will be available for purchase at the Lakeside Pavilion and afterwards at the Bayfield Chamber and Visitor Bureau.

“Around the Corner” is produced and recorded by Milwaukee Public Television. The show won the 2013 Chicago Midwest Emmy Award for Best Magazine Show, awarded by The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. “Around the Corner” is seen throughout  Wisconsin, Minnesota and Northern Illinois on Wisconsin Public Television, Milwaukee Public Television, Minnesota Public Television and Chicago Public Television.

If you are unable to attend the premier, the episode will air publicly on March 19 and March 29. It will also be available streaming online at www.mptv.org.
